Homeless animals sterilization

In place since 2020

Sterilization is the only humane and effective way to control the alarming rise of stray pet populations.

The reproductive potential of just one female dog and her offspring is alarming, as they can produce up to 67,000 dogs in just six years.
Similarly, one female cat and her offspring can produce up to 420,000 cats in seven years – and these staggering numbers are based on just one pair of animals!

Unfortunately, millions of dogs and cats are euthanized in shelters each year, and millions more are abandoned in rural and urban areas. Sterilization is a critical measure that needs to be taken urgently to address this problem.

The certification and microchipping of pets is an issue in Ukraine, with less than 10% of dogs and cats currently chipped, and only 25% possessing a passport. Our aim is to microchip and issue passports for over 500 pets by the end of 2023.

Microchipping for dogs and cats is a straightforward and painless process that can be carried out by a veterinarian. It is similar to receiving an injection and takes only a few seconds to implant. No anesthesia is required, and the chip lasts for the pet’s lifetime. The passport can be issued at any veterinary clinic in as little as 10 minutes.

The microchip holds a unique preprogrammed number that serves to identify the pet. This not only helps pet owners locate their lost pets, but also assists shelters and veterinarians in returning animals to their rightful owners. Streamlining this process can help prevent overcrowding in shelters and reduce stress levels for all animals.

The passport acts as proof that the pet is healthy and has received all necessary vaccinations and treatments. This can facilitate the transportation of animals between countries.

Moreover, the process is very affordable, with the average cost of basic vaccinations, microchipping, and passport issuance for a dog being around 80€.

There are numerous benefits of spaying and neutering animals:

Helps prevent unwanted animals

Drastically reduces the risk of cancer

Increases the animal’s chance of a longer and healthier life by 3 to 5 years. Moreover, it eliminates several health problems that are difficult or expensive to treat

Can also change unwanted behavior, making animals less aggressive

Reduces the urge to roam, decreases the risk of contracting diseases or getting hurt as they roam

Animals will be less likely to mark their territory by spraying strong-smelling urine all over the house

Female animals will no longer go into heat

The community as a whole also benefits from spaying and neutering animals. Stray animals can easily become a public nuisance, soiling parks and streets, damaging gardens, and causing noise and other disturbances, frightening children and elderly people, and even causing automobile accidents

The capture, impoundment, and eventual destruction of unwanted animals are also expensive for taxpayers and private humanitarian agencies

In conclusion, sterilization is the most effective and compassionate method for controlling the rise of stray pet populations. By spaying and neutering animals, we can prevent the birth of unwanted animals, reduce the risk of disease and behavioral problems, and create a safer and healthier community for all.


